Ship Hull Performance and Rudder Protection Coating

Subsea Industries produces coating and cleaning systems that keep the underwater part of your vessels in the best possible condition.
In 1993 research began on developing a new, long-lasting,non-toxic method of protecting ship hulls. The coating system was introduced into the market in 2002. In 2013, after more than 10 years of strenuous testing, Ecoshield was launched for permanent protection against cavitation damage for rudders. In 2014 Ecolock was introduced. This coating system is designed to protect offshore vessels for decades without the need for drydocking. The latest members of the family are Ecofix, a superior, tested and proven filler and Ecolast, a UltraViolet resistant coating that preserves its color while at the same time offering the corrosion and abrasion protection our coatings are known for.

Ecospeed offer a long-lasting, non-toxic protection for all ship hulls and provides a system that keeps a hull very smooth and free of fouling for the service life of the vessel with minimal repair and no replacement. Instead of using chemicals to try to kill and repel marine fouling organisms, Ecospeed uses a hard, impermeable, impenetrable coating along with manual removal of fouling at an early stage.
Ecospeed is a non-toxic, extremely durable hull coating system that will give a ship a
lasting protection against fouling and water intrusion.
It can be applied to polyester, aluminum and steel hulls and protects against osmosis and corrosion over an exceptionally long period. There is no need for re-painting every few years as Ecospeed will last a lifetime.
Ecospeed has a hydrodynamic ultra-smooth surface finishing that lets you go faster and further with less power.
The coating system is biocide-free and 100% nontoxic.
Fouling that accumulates due to inactivity only requires easy maintenance by cold water
blasting or by underwater cleaning. This can be done fast and easy and only the fouling is removed.
The coating remains intact instead of being dispersed in the water.
Ecoshield was launched in 2013 for permanent protection against cavitation damage for rudders. The glassflake reinforced coating protects the rudder for the service life of the ship without need for recoating or major repair and comes with a ten-year guarantee. Ecoshield is also suitable for bulbous bow, stabilizer fins, thruster nozzles and other underwater ship gear which needs special protection from corrosion.
Ecofix is used in combination with Ecoshield, the ultimate rudder protection coating. When a rudder or other piece of underwater ship gear has not been properly protected, the surface will become corroded. Cavitation damage can cause severe pitting. The steel needs to be restored to its original shape with a smooth surface prior to recoating.
It is a superior, tested and proven filler. Because it uses the same basic resin as Ecoshield, the coating can be applied just one hour after the filler. The bonding and hardness are extraordinary. This is the effective alternative to metal facing or very expensive alternative fillers.
Ecolock is designed to protect offshore vessels for decades without the need for drydocking. Increasingly, offshore units such as FPSOs, FSOs, FLRSUs and others used for offshore oil and gas exploration, drilling, storage and transport need to stay out of drydock for 15, 25 even 40 years. The challenge has been to protect the underwater hull from corrosion and to provide a cleanable surface so that the biofouling that accumulates can be removed successfully and safely for UWILD and to reduce weight. Ecolock is the answer to that challenge.
Ecolock is an extremely tough and durable coating designed to remain in excellent condition for 15 – 25 years without drydocking, repair or replacement. Ecolock can be cleaned underwater as often as needed to meet the UWILD and weight requirements of FPSOs, drill ships and other offshore vessels. Ecolock is the result of continual R&D on offshore hull coatings since the 1990s.
Ecolast is highly resistant against salt, ultraviolet radiation, waves or even ice. Mechanical damage to the coated surface is minimized. This is especially important for (semi-)submerged structures like wind turbines that are located in splash or tidal zones.
Regular coatings will quickly lose their original color when exposed to the ultraviolet radiation present in sunlight. This is problematic when colorfastness is required, as is the case in for example offshore wind farms.
Ecolast will keep its color because it is highly ultraviolet resistant. Ecolast is also unaffected by corrosion. As a result no repaint is required once the coating has been applied, safeguarding the color and the integrity of the structure or vessel.
Underwater cleaning equipment
Typhoon cleaning machines is available for various applications on all types of vessels; from propellers on small pleasure boats up to the hulls of 400 meter container ships or big offshore platforms.
All kinds of fouling can be removed very effectively; light slime as well as thick layers of heavy marine growth.
Our cleaning units can be used effortlessly and safely for extended periods of time. They are easy to maneuver and will help you clean even the hardest to reach niche areas.
All units are offered separately or with a complete support system including umbilical, tools and hydraulic power unit.
